2010 One Book, One Community Program
Westmoreland Heritage and The Westmoreland Library Network are pleased to present the 2010 One Book, One Community Reading program using the book For the Love of Murphy's: The Behind-the-Counter Story of a Great American Retailer.
Many people have fond memories of bustling business districts in many small towns throughout Westmoreland County anchored by a Murphy’s.
Programs at 17 local libraries are scheduled to begin in early May and continue through August.
All those participating in the book discussion will be eligible to attend a “Special Event” about the Murphy Company to be held on August 28 at the McKeesport Heritage Center.

Special Event: Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010
Anyone participating in these library discussions of For the Love of Murphy’s is invited to a free bus trip on Saturday, August 28, to the McKeesport Heritage Center, located in the former headquarters city of the G.C. Murphy Co.
An extensive program about Murphy’s will be presented on that date. The author of For the Love of Murphy’s, Jason Togyer, will be the main speaker. Lunch will be provided for a fee.
The official repository for historical and genealogical records of McKeesport, the McKeesport Heritage Center maintains an library and archives and a rotating set of exhibits about local cultural and industrial institutions.
Following the program, visitors are invited to see some of the other attractions in McKeesport’s 258-acre Renziehausen Park, including the city’s restored first schoolhouse, built in 1832.
You may also tour the adjacent arboretum. Home to more than 1,200 roses in 28 different beds, it is the second-largest rose garden in Pennsylvania and one of approximately 100 nationwide certified by the American Rose Society.
Pre-registration is necessary! Details will be available at each library book discussion.
